Jinko Solar have announced that Shanxi will be the new home to their new gigafactory, with phase 1 and 2 to start production in 2024 and phase 3 and 4 to start production in 2025.

The primary objective behind setting up this vertically integrated manufacturing platform in Shanxi is to enhance efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint, thereby gaining a competitive advantage over other solar companies. By consolidating the entire production process in one location, JinkoSolar aims to streamline operations, increase production volumes, and lower costs. This integration will enable the company to work simultaneously on different stages of manufacturing, resulting in higher productivity and cost savings.

Dany Qian, VP of JinkoSolar said “Our new vertical integrated manufacturing base in Shanxi will allow more work simultaneously at the same location, meaning we can build more panels at lower cost & with a much smaller carbon footprint.”

With a vertically integrated manufacturing chain, JinkoSolar gains complete control and oversight over every stage of production, from ingots to modules. This comprehensive approach enhances traceability, transparency, and quality control. Leveraging their well-developed N-type technology and manufacturing expertise, JinkoSolar is poised to become the industry leader in N-type production. Moreover, this integration attracts valuable partnerships with equipment and raw material suppliers, fostering collaboration in research and development, risk mitigation, and price stability. This collaborative environment accelerates the adoption of new technologies and ensures faster time-to-market.

An important factor influencing the choice of Shanxi as the site for the new plant is the commitment of the local government and utility to provide long-term green electricity supply. This aligns with JinkoSolar’s RE100 goal and helps the company achieve its objective of zero-carbon production. The region’s abundant renewable power resources and established green power infrastructure make it an ideal location for such a venture.
